About the trip

I am delighted to present this trip to England’s Golf Coast in July 2027.

This trip showcases a superb collection of historic and championship links. We will play three Open courses - Royal Birkdale (host to the 2026 Championship), Royal Lytham (host to the 2028 Championship) and Royal Liverpool (last hosted the Open in 2023).

We will also enjoy three other wonderful courses in the area - Wallasey, Formby and West Lancs.

Our stay is split between Liverpool and Southport. In Liverpool, we will be based on the waterfront with easy access to restaurants and nightlife, while in Southport we will stay in the heart of the town - convenient for the courses on England's Golf Coast.

Several group meals are included throughout the stay and we will run a little (optional) stableford competition through this week. This is a great way to get to meet fellow golf enthusiasts and enjoy some of the very best links golf England has to offer.

Wallasey

TimeFrom 11:34am

Wallasey Golf Club is a historic links on the Wirral Peninsula, overlooking Liverpool Bay and the Irish Sea. Laid out originally by Old Tom Morris, it occupies a significant place in the game’s story and remains closely tied to championship golf. Bobby Jones famously qualified for The Open here in 1930 during his Grand Slam year, and the club has since hosted Open qualifying on multiple occasions.

The course moves between two distinct landscapes. The opening 9 holes play through bold coastal dunes, including the elevated fourth tee with far reaching views across the bay, before the back nine moves inland onto rolling ground where subtle movement and judging the seemingly every present wind dictate strategy.

Wallasey is the birthplace of Stableford scoring, a fitting legacy for a course that rewards good decision making and precise execution. It remains one of the most characterful links on England’s Golf Coast.

Chez Mal serves classic brasserie dishes with a modern edge, while the Mal Bar is a lively spot for cocktails and late evening drinks.

West Lancashire

TimeFrom 11am

Founded in 1873, West Lancashire, known locally as West Lancs, is one of England’s oldest clubs. This is a course for the connoisseur. The land adds to the interest, with several holes weaving through impressive dunes while others open out across flatter ground, creating a lot of variety throughout the round. Challenge comes from raised, subtly contoured greens and deep, well placed bunkers.

There are many memorable moments at West Lancs. The 2nd features clever centreline bunkers that test decision making from the tee, trains run alongside the 11th fairway, and the 13th offers sweeping views across Liverpool Bay to the hills of North Wales.

West Lancashire is a quality addition to a North West England itinerary, a links course that rewards patience, precision and an appreciation of the game’s oldest virtues.

Royal Liverpool

TimeFrom 12pm

Royal Liverpool, known locally as Hoylake, is a course that rewards thought as much as power. It lacks the towering dunes of some Open venues, but its challenge lies in precision, strategy and an almost constant breeze that influences every shot.

Out of bounds adds to the test from the very beginning, sharpening focus from the opening tee and setting the tone for the round. The bunkering is intelligently placed and often penal, reinforcing the value of accuracy throughout. The par three 15th is a notable recent addition, set starkly against the horizon and adding a modern note to the historic links. Royal Liverpool has hosted The Open more than a dozen times, with champions including Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. This is one of the game’s great strategic tests.

Royal Birkdale

TimeFrom 12pm

Royal Birkdale is a classic links course and is widely considered England’s finest. The holes wind through towering dunes that create a dramatic setting while feeling entirely natural. The art deco clubhouse is an important part of the experience, with views across the 18th that frame the finish and reflect the club’s long championship history.

Birkdale is a demanding but fair test. Elevated tees provide clear views of what lies ahead, giving definition that is rare on true links land and eliminating blind shots. Crosswinds are a constant presence and place pressure on every tee shot, while the fairways reward bold play. Subtly contoured greens demand precision and touch. The list of champions here is remarkable - Palmer, Jacklin, and Watson among them. As you make your way around, you really are walking in the footsteps of the greats.

Royal Lytham and St Annes

TimeFrom 12:20pm

Royal Lytham & St Annes is a legendary course, and one of the toughest tests in championship golf. The opening is an unusual one, a demanding par three that immediately sets the tone for what’s to come.

With more than 170 bunkers and thick, unforgiving rough, this is a course that rewards discipline and precision above all else. The front nine may be your best chance to make a score, but the closing stretch, with six testing par fours, is relentless. Finish strongly over those holes and you’ll have earned your drink in the wonderful clubhouse overlooking the 18th green.

Lytham has a great list of Open champions including Bobby Jones, Tony Jacklin, and Seve Ballesteros - names that define greatness. Royal Lytham is one of golf’s most demanding and distinguished links.

Formby

TimeFrom 12pm

Formby Golf Club offers a distinctive take on links golf. Set among tall pines and rolling dunes, it blends links and heathland characteristics in a way few courses manage. The routing reflects the influence of several leading architects, including Willie Park Jr., James Braid and Harry Colt, each leaving a clear mark on the layout.

The opening holes run alongside the railway line and demand accuracy from the outset, before the course turns inland through forest and then out into broader coastal dunes. Formby is defined by contrast and restraint, with strategy and positioning valued throughout. Long regarded among England’s finest, it remains a standout on the Golf Coast.

This list is not exhaustive.

In the event of force majeure, we will seek to obtain any refunds or alternatives offered by our suppliers. Refunds or adjustments can only be provided to the extent that our suppliers allow them. We cannot guarantee compensation or reimbursement for elements that suppliers decline to refund.

We are not responsible for any additional costs you may incur as a result of such events, including new flights, extended accommodation, extra transport, or other related expenses.

It may be necessary to alter itineraries, tee times, or arrangements due to force majeure. Such changes do not entitle you to compensation or a refund beyond what our suppliers provide.

We strongly recommend that all travellers obtain comprehensive travel insurance that covers cancellations, medical emergencies, delays, and lost or damaged belongings.

We do not provide insurance advice or sell insurance policies.

If you choose to travel without appropriate insurance, you do so entirely at your own risk.

8. Golf Course Requirements and Behaviour

Most golf courses have a maximum handicap requirement. In the UK this is typically 24, however some English courses have a maximum of 18.4. If this may be an issue for any member of your group, please contact us before booking. Courses may require proof of handicap before play, and failure to meet these requirements may result in refusal of play with no refund.

All golfers must comply with the rules and regulations of each golf course, including attire standards, pace of play, safety rules, and any instructions given by course staff or marshals.

If a golf course is open for play and you decide not to play due to concerns about weather or course conditions, no refund will be provided.

You and your group are expected to behave appropriately at all times. If anyone’s behaviour causes distress or danger to others, we reserve the right to terminate that individual’s participation in the trip without a refund. Any additional costs arising from removal due to behaviour, such as transport or accommodation expenses, will be your responsibility.

9. Special Requests

Caddies can be requested, but availability is never guaranteed and will be arranged on a best endeavours basis only. Special requests of any kind are not guaranteed unless confirmed in writing.

Most courses in the UK and Ireland are traditional walking courses. Some courses have very limited carts with strict medical thresholds for use, and others do not have carts at all. If the availability of a cart is essential to your decision to travel, you must ensure this can be secured at the time of booking. Some courses may require advance submission of appropriate medical documentation.

All fees for caddies or carts, including any gratuities, must be paid by you unless otherwise stated in your itinerary.

10. Complaints

If something goes wrong during your trip, you must inform us as soon as possible so that we have the opportunity to resolve the issue at the time. Failure to raise a problem during the trip may reduce our ability to investigate or resolve it later.

If an issue cannot be resolved during your trip, any formal complaint must be submitted in writing by the lead booker within 28 days of your return. Compensation cannot be considered for matters that were not reported during the trip unless it was genuinely impossible to do so at the time.

Complaints should be sent to david@outpostoverseas.com.

11. Liability

We arrange travel and golf services on your behalf and act as an agent for third party providers such as hotels, transport companies, and golf courses. As such, we are not responsible for the performance, omissions, or failures of these third party services. Any claims relating to the delivery or standard of services provided by a supplier must be directed to that supplier.

Our liability to you is limited to the total cost of your booking. We are not liable for any loss of personal items, including but not limited to luggage, golf clubs, equipment, money, or valuables.

We are not liable for any consequential or indirect losses, including loss of earnings, additional travel expenses, or costs arising from missed services or delays caused by weather, transport disruptions, or other factors outside our control.

You participate in all activities, including golf, travel, and any optional excursions, at your own risk. We are not responsible for injuries, accidents, or medical expenses arising during your trip unless caused by our proven negligence.

We are not liable for any losses, damages, or disruptions caused by events beyond our control, including extreme weather, natural disasters, government actions, strikes, or similar circumstances.

12. Jurisdiction

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Scotland. All parties agree that any disputes arising under these Terms and Conditions will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
